Matanot L'evyonim

  • Gifts For Those In Need On Purim Day

  • One of the main observances of this festive holiday, dating back to the very first Purim, is that of "Matonot L’evyonim" – extending alms to the needy among us.

Indeed, no celebration of our tradition can be deemed appropriate or complete if it does not include providing joy and relief to those of our brothers and sisters who are hurting.

As we do every year, Chabad of North will again be serving as our community’s conduit for the fulfillment of this mitzvah by discreetly distributing vital support to many individuals and families in the community who are in need of finanical assistnace.

Furthermore, this year, our “Matonot L’evyonim” project will take on an added dimension as we will also be allocating half of the funds raised to help those of our brethren in Israel who’ve been suffering in the wake of October 7, 2023 – especially the refugees from the border cities and kibbutzim who have been displaced from their homes for five months now!

By fulfilling your Matonot L’evyonim mitzvah during this critical time for our people we will add extra emphasis and authenticity to our proclamation during the reading of the Megillah: “The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honor.” (Esther 8:16)

With heartfelt gratitude and wishes for a jubilant and triumphant Purim to you and yours amongst all of Israel.

    Rabbi Elly
